About Us

Meet Paul
Paul Carta is the inventor of the patented 3in1 Powercot.
Below: the Powercot story so far...
My wife, Richelle sustained a high level spinal cord injury after a diving accident in 1989. The resultant Quadriplegia means she is dependent on her wheelchair for all her mobility. She also has limited upper body and lower body movement.

In January 2008 we were expecting our first child. As the excited parents to be, we started to organize our baby’s nursery. We managed to purchase everything we thought we would need for our nursery, except for an accessible cot that my wife could use without having to rely on help to get our baby in and out. After 3 months of searching for a manufacturer or supplier of such a piece of equipment, and finding none, Richelle was quite stressed.

The products we looked at mostly were like sterile pieces of medical equipment or worse still, they looked like cages! Not what we would want our child to wake up in every day for the first years of her life. Enough was enough! I decided that I needed to custom design an accessible cot for my wife to use independently. After several draft designs, we both agreed on a concept. Richelle was happy with aesthetic appearance and would be able to use independently whilst in her wheelchair. I made sure that the design looked like an infant cot that would complete our baby’s nursery beautifully. This is when the idea of the ‘3 in 1 Power Cot’ came into being.

We felt that everyone should have access to such a useful and empowering piece of equipment.  Since my first prototype I have continued to modify the design of the ‘3 in 1 Power Cot’ to make it more practical, accessible and safe. The prototype has since been trialed by people in similar situations to test the product. Please feel free to visit Bernadette Nolan's blog at www.worldlywheelchair.com and read about parenting Jasper using the 3in1 power cot
